Bihar Launches Rs 53.4 Billion Green Energy Plan

The Bihar government has taken a major stride towards clean energy with the launch of two new policies and the signing of agreements totalling Rs 53.4 billion. These initiatives aim to generate 2,357 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy through solar, wind, battery storage, and other sustainable technologies.
The Bihar Renewable Energy Policy 2025 and the Pump Storage Policy 2025 were officially introduced at an event in Patna. Designed to attract significant investment, the policies seek to position Bihar as a key centre for clean energy projects. Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav stated that these measures will help reduce pollution, generate employment, and contribute to a healthier future for coming generations.
During the event, four major memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed. L&T will develop a battery storage facility in Lakhisarai, while NTPC Green plans to build a 1,000 MW battery energy storage system. Avaada Group will execute large-scale solar projects, and SECI Ltd will focus on developing floating solar installations.
The new policies offer incentives including tax concessions, expedited approvals, and project facilitation support to attract private investment. Officials expressed confidence that Bihar could meet a significant share of its energy requirements through renewables by 2030. Industry Minister Nitish Mishra also encouraged investors to explore the state’s ongoing progress firsthand.
