GE Vernova Secures Major Order for RE Corridors

GE Vernova’s Indian arm has bagged one of its largest-ever transformer and shunt reactor orders from Power Grid Corporation of India, aimed at strengthening transmission networks across the country’s renewable energy corridors.

As part of this major deal, GE Vernova T&D India will supply over 70 units of 765 kV extra high-voltage transformers and shunt reactors. These components will support key power evacuation projects under India’s Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism.

“This is one of the largest order intakes for GE Vernova’s Electrification segment in India and a significant milestone for our Vadodara facility,” said Ruchir Mayank, Commercial Leader of GE Vernova’s Power Transmission business.

The scope of the contract includes the supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of the equipment. Manufacturing will take place at GE Vernova’s transformer facility in Vadodara, which has been producing 765 kV units since 2009. The facility has already delivered over 700 such units nationwide.

Deliveries under the new order are expected to begin in 2026 and continue until the end of 2027.

Power Grid, India’s largest electric transmission utility, has placed this order as part of a bulk procurement strategy to bolster high-capacity RE corridors in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.

“This project reflects our commitment to advancing India's transmission infrastructure and enabling the clean energy transition,” said Sandeep Zanzaria, MD and CEO, GE Vernova T&D India. “We are proud to deliver extra high-voltage technologies that support cleaner, more resilient power systems.”

The initiative is expected to significantly boost India's renewable energy integration, enhance grid stability, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
