Germany Allocates 2.15 GW in Solar Auction Amid Strong Demand

Germany’s Federal Network Agency, Bundesnetzagentur, has allocated 2.15 GW of solar projects in its latest auction for installations on structures other than buildings or noise barriers, classified as “first-segment solar installations.”

This marks the fifth consecutive auction round where bid volume exceeded 4 GW. Out of 524 bids totalling 4.71 GW, 242 bids amounting to 2.15 GW were awarded.

Pricing and regional distribution
The awarded bid prices ranged between €0.0419 ($0.0450)/kWh and €0.0495 /kWh, with a volume-weighted average of €0.0476/kWh, reflecting a 6% decrease from the previous round’s €0.0505/kWh.

  • Bavaria secured the highest allocation with 916 MW across 120 winning bids.
  • Schleswig-Holstein followed with 213 MW (21 bids).
  • Lower Saxony received 192 MW (18 bids).
  • Baden-Württemberg secured 176 MW (20 bids).
  • Brandenburg was awarded 170 MW (13 bids).
For the first time, the auction incorporated minimum nature conservation criteria under Germany’s Solar Package I program, aimed at enhancing the environmental sustainability of ground-mounted solar projects.

Germany’s growing solar market
Germany added 16,179 MW of new solar capacity in 2024, a 7% YoY increase, reaching a total operational capacity of 99.2 GW, the highest annual installation record in the country.

Earlier this year, Bundesnetzagentur issued a 2.625 GW tender for solar projects on agricultural land, grasslands, and disadvantaged areas, as part of its plan to auction 9,900 MW of projects across three bidding rounds in 2025.

Additionally, Germany’s latest innovation tender for 583 MW of renewable energy projects saw 218% oversubscription, receiving bids for 1,856 MW, highlighting the sector’s strong momentum.
