Liebherr’s 10,000th XPower Wheel Loader Joins BERGER’s Fleet

BERGER Rohstoffe GmbH has welcomed the 10,000th Liebherr XPower wheel loader to its operations at the Schlag granite quarry in Passau. The milestone machine, officially handed over at Liebherr’s Bischofshofen plant in May 2025, underscores the long-standing partnership between BERGER, Liebherr, and the Beutlhauser Group. Equipped with Liebherr’s signature power-split travel drive, the new L 580 XPower is already delivering strong results under demanding quarry conditions.

At the Schlag quarry, BERGER Rohstoffe processes approximately 200,000 tonnes of Bayerwald granite annually into high-quality chippings for concrete and road construction. “We are proud to have the 10,000th XPower wheel loader in operation. It reflects the excellent cooperation between BERGER, Liebherr and Beutlhauser,” said Michael Gruber, Technical Operations Manager at BERGER Rohstoffe GmbH. He highlights the exceptional service support and reliable spare parts supply provided by Liebherr and Beutlhauser.

Powerful, Efficient and Built for Quarrying

The L 580 XPower plays a key role in loading and transporting material, while working alongside a Liebherr R 934 crawler excavator with a hydraulic breaker for pre-crushing larger rocks. In dusty, uneven terrain, the wheel loader demonstrates impressive strength, durability and fuel efficiency. “The XPower stands out for its productivity, low diesel consumption and operator-friendly handling. Our team genuinely enjoys working with it,” Gruber noted.

Liebherr’s XPower travel drive combines hydrostatic and mechanical propulsion, automatically adjusting to the application. Short loading cycles benefit from hydrostatic drive, while the mechanical drive supports longer hauls and inclines—ensuring optimal power, acceleration and efficiency across tasks.

With robust Z-kinematics providing high breakout forces, the L 580 XPower enables fast, easy bucket filling—ideal for handling heavy rock. Durable Liebherr components and thoughtful engineering ensure long-term reliability, even under intensive use. The spacious, ergonomically designed cab offers excellent visibility, further enhancing safety and comfort for operators in granite mining environments.
