Honeywell Unveils AI Tools to Enhance Green Hydrogen Efficiency

Honeywell has introduced Honeywell Protonium, a comprehensive suite of advanced technologies driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), aimed at improving the efficiency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of green hydrogen production. The technology is designed to address key industry challenges such as power intermittency, high production costs, and carbon intensity, thereby facilitating the wider adoption of clean hydrogen as a sustainable energy source.

The first deployment of Honeywell Protonium will take place at Aternium, a US-based large-scale clean hydrogen producer. Aternium will implement the technology at its upcoming Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub (MACH2), one of seven hydrogen hubs across the United States selected for funding by the US Department of Energy. This hub is expected to play a critical role in accelerating the commercial viability and infrastructure of green hydrogen in the region.

Honeywell Protonium enhances hydrogen production by improving electrolysis efficiency and integrating predictive control algorithms that optimise plant design and operations. These advancements are expected to make the production process more sustainable and economically viable, contributing to the broader goals of energy transition and decarbonisation.

The solution aligns with Honeywell’s broader strategy to support the growth of clean energy technologies by offering smart, autonomous systems that boost performance and reliability. By enabling producers to scale operations while maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency, Honeywell Protonium represents a significant step forward in the development of green hydrogen infrastructure in the US and globally.
