India built in 14 GW of solar power in 2022

JMK Research analysts estimate that India installed 13,956 MW of solar capacity and 1,847 MW of wind capacity in the 12 months leading up to December 31, 2022.

Utility-scale solar accounted for 11.3 GW of the new solar additions, an increase of 47% from 2021. Along with over 700 MW of off-grid/distributed PV, developers added about 1.9 GW of rooftop capacity, a decrease of 42% year over year.

In 2022, the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu installed the majority of the world's large-scale solar capacity.

According to India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the country's total installed renewable energy capacity stood at 120.85 GW as of December (MNRE). In terms of the whole mix of renewable energy, solar energy makes up around 52%, followed by wind energy at 35%, biopower at 9%, and small hydro at 4%.
