IndiGrid starts new transmission project in Maharashtra's Beed

IndiGrid, an infrastructure investment trust, announced the operationalization of its inaugural greenfield transmission project situated in Beed, Maharashtra. The trust had secured the project in December 2021 through a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process for development under the Build, Own, Operate, and Maintain (BOOM) framework spanning 35 years, according to a statement released by IndiGrid.

As per the statement, the project comprises a substation with a capacity of 2 x 500 MVA (mega volt amp) and voltages of 400/220 kV (kilovolt), along with 10 Bays housing a LILO (Loop-In-Loop-Out) multi-circuit line spanning 18 kilometres.

"IndiGrid has put into operation its premier greenfield project - Kallam Transmission (KTL) - situated in Beed, Maharashtra," stated IndiGrid.

The project aims to facilitate the evacuation of 1 GW of power generated from renewable energy projects in the Dharashiv area of Maharashtra, playing a pivotal role in enhancing the state's transmission infrastructure by enhancing grid availability for the evacuation and integration of renewable energy, as per the announcement. Additionally, in November 2022, IndiGrid was also granted the augmentation task for the KTL project to enable the evacuation of an extra 1 GW of renewable energy under the Regulated Tariff Mechanism (RTM).

"KTL marks our initial venture into the greenfield transmission sector. We have developed considerable execution proficiency, allowing us to engage in the significant transmission bidding pipeline through the TBCB route."

"As IndiGrid gears up to explore more greenfield opportunities, this project has furnished us with valuable insights and positions us favourably for future successes," remarked Harsh Shah, the Chief Executive Officer, and Whole-Time Director of IndiGrid.

IndiGrid stands as India's pioneer listed power sector infrastructure investment trust (InvIT), possessing 37 power projects, comprising 46 transmission lines spanning over 8,468 ckms in length.
