JVVNL Approves Hybrid Inverters for Rooftop Solar

Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JVVNL) has approved the use of hybrid inverters for rooftop solar installations, signalling a shift in the management of distributed generation in its service area. The approval covers devices that integrate photovoltaic conversion with battery energy storage and grid interactive functions, and is intended to enable more flexible operation of rooftop systems. JVVNL framed the approval as a measure to facilitate higher penetration of renewable energy while maintaining network reliability and simplifying interconnection procedures.

The hybrid inverter approval is expected to allow households and commercial consumers to combine solar panels with energy storage and to manage export to the grid under a single system. Operators will be able to regulate charging and discharging of batteries to reduce peak demand and to smooth supply variations, which may reduce technical losses on local feeders. The measure also provides a route for standardisation of installation practices and commissioning checks across the distribution network.

The decision could lower barriers for rooftop solar suppliers and system integrators by clarifying technical and commercial interfaces with the distribution company. Compliance requirements set by JVVNL are likely to include protective settings, metering arrangements and registration processes to ensure accurate accounting of energy flows. These steps are expected to support wider adoption of hybrid solutions by improving predictability for finance providers and customers.

Industry bodies and installers will now engage with the distribution company to align on implementation timelines and testing protocols, and consumers will be advised on eligibility and application procedures. The approval is positioned as part of a broader effort to modernise the distribution grid and to create demand for smarter, integrated rooftop systems that support clean energy objectives.
