Maharashtra boosts rooftop solar with 5 MW net metering cap

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission has raised the net metering limit for rooftop solar power projects to 5 MW or the consumer's contract demand/sanction load, whichever is less. Previously, net metering in the state was restricted to less than 1 MW. This adjustment in the net metering cap reflects a concerted initiative to promote the uptake of commercial and industrial rooftop installations. Additionally, the Commission has granted consumers the option to choose group net metering, net billing, or behind-the-meter connection.
