MNRE Expands Solar Module Capacity to 28 GW for ALMM

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has announced a significant expansion of its Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), raising the total solar module manufacturing capacity to 28 GW. This move is aimed at accelerating the growth of India's solar energy sector and enhancing the country's renewable energy capabilities.

The ALMM, a crucial component of India's renewable energy policy, ensures that only quality-assured solar modules and manufacturers are used in government-supported projects. By expanding the list to include more manufacturers and increasing capacity, MNRE aims to drive higher standards and reliability in solar power generation.

This increase in capacity is expected to attract more investment into the solar manufacturing sector, fostering innovation and improving the overall quality of solar products available in the market. It will also support the government's ambitious target of achieving 100 GW of solar power by 2022 and 450 GW of renewable energy by 2030.

The inclusion of additional manufacturers in the ALMM will enhance competition and reduce dependency on imports, promoting domestic production and self-reliance. This move aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which focuses on boosting local manufacturing and reducing reliance on foreign technology and materials.

The expansion of the ALMM will not only improve the availability of high-quality solar modules but also ensure that the country's solar energy projects are more efficient and cost-effective. By supporting a robust supply chain, the MNRE is paving the way for a sustainable and resilient renewable energy infrastructure in India.

With this strategic enhancement, the MNRE continues to reinforce its commitment to sustainable development and the transition towards a greener energy future, positioning India as a global leader in renewable energy.
