NHPC Reports Strong Hydro Output, Advances 8 New Projects

NHPC Limited and its joint venture and subsidiary companies have commissioned 23 hydropower projects up to October 2025, with a combined installed capacity of 7,771 MW. Total electricity generation from these projects reached 29.89 billion units in 2022–23, 26.06 billion units in 2023–24 and 25.19 billion units in 2024–25, while the April–October 2025 figure stands at 23.02 billion units.

Eight additional hydropower projects are currently under construction across Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, with a total planned capacity of 8,514 MW. These include major schemes such as the Subansiri Lower, Dibang Multipurpose and Teesta-VI hydroelectric projects, as well as the Ratle, Pakal Dul, Kiru and Kwar projects being implemented through joint ventures.

Teesta-VI (Sikkim) – 500 MW; cost Rs 84.49 billion; commissioning Sept 2029

Rangit-IV (Sikkim) – 120 MW; Rs 18.89 billion; Apr 2026

Ratle (J&K) – 850 MW; Rs 52.82 billion; Nov 2028

Pakal Dul (J&K) – 1,000 MW; cost Rs 127.28 billion; Dec 2026

Kiru (J&K) – 624 MW; Rs 54.09 billion; Dec 2026

Kwar (J&K) – 540 MW; Rs 45.26 billion; Mar 2028

NHPC emphasised that its projects generate local employment, especially for Project Affected Families (PAFs), and provide business opportunities to local entrepreneurs through bidding and contracting.

For grievance redressal, the Government of India has implemented the CPGRAMS online platform, through which complaints are reviewed and resolved in a time-bound manner.
