Road and Bridge Projects Transform Connectivity in Rajouri’s Manjakote

Manjakote block in Rajouri has recently witnessed a significant improvement in infrastructure, with enhanced road connectivity and new bridge construction taking shape for the first time since Independence. Multiple government schemes have accelerated development in the border region near the Line of Control, easing daily movement for local residents.

The upgradation of Highway 144A, aimed at reducing travel time between Rajouri and Poonch through four-laning, has improved access to several border villages. As part of this initiative, the 3 km Manjakote–Rajouri stretch has been completed, offering much-needed relief to villagers living in a sensitive and volatile zone.

Under Package-6 of the project, covering the Kalkar to Dhari Dhara area near Manjakote, road and bridge works are being undertaken through the Border Roads Organisation’s Border Area Connectivity programme. Schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, along with support from the Public Works Department and NABARD, are contributing to faster development in remote locations.

According to site in-charge Sadaam Hussain, the project, with an allocated cost of Rs 30.2 million, has been closely monitored on a daily basis to ensure quality execution. He noted that despite challenges, the work has progressed steadily since its commencement in 2023.

Local residents have welcomed the improved connectivity, citing easier access to schools, markets and healthcare facilities. Community members said the new road has reduced hardship during adverse weather and opened up opportunities for local businesses. The improved access is also expected to be critical during medical emergencies.

Adding to the connectivity push, the BRO recently inaugurated the Bhawani Sethu Bridge in Rajouri, which is set to reduce travel time for the panchayats of Bhawani, Kslsian and Jhangher, reinforcing ongoing efforts to link remote border villages with all-weather infrastructure.
