NLC & UP Govt building 1,980 MW thermal plant for Rs 194.06 bn
As per the ministry's declaration, once the plant became fully operational, it would supply approximately 1,478.28 MW of power to Uttar Pradesh and the remaining 492.72 MW to Assam.
The ministry also mentioned that NLC, a Tamil Nadu-based company operating under its jurisdiction, managed three opencast lignite mines with a total installed capacity of 30 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) at Neyveli. Additionally, the company operated an opencast lignite mine at Barsingsar in Rajasthan, with an installed capacity of 2.1 MTPA, and an opencast coal mine at Talabira in Odisha, with an installed capacity of 20 MTPA. Furthermore, NLC operated four lignite-based pit-head thermal power stations at Neyveli, boasting an aggregate capacity of 3,390 MW, along with a 250 MW lignite-based thermal power station at Barsingsar, Rajasthan.

NLC India announced that it had formed a joint venture with the UP government to establish a thermal power plant in Ghatampur near Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The Ministry of Coal mentioned that the project's estimated cost would be Rs 194.06 billion. The plant would have a capacity of 1,980 MW, divided into three units of 660 MW each. The first phase of the project was expected to commence power generation by the end of that year.
