Noida's Power Department Ditches Flawed RF Surveys

The Noida Power Department (PVVNL) has embarked on a revolutionary initiative, replacing its previous radio frequency (RF) mode site survey for smart meters with a more accurate and efficient Geographic Information System (GIS)-based approach. This marks a significant step towards improving service delivery and addressing concerns in rural areas.

Phase One Targets Rural Outposts:

The first phase of the GIS survey is currently underway in the rural areas of Dadri, Jewar, and Dankaur, aiming for completion by March 2024. This prioritization of far-flung regions stems from the higher volume of complaints received from these areas.

Data-Driven Accuracy:

The new GIS survey leverages GPS technology to provide precise location data for each smart meter. This data will be integrated into the billing process at the Sector 58 data center, facilitating enhanced accountability, easier location identification, and streamlined fault rectification for consumers.

Enhanced Efficiency and Service:

"Once the survey is complete, GPS tagging will take another six months, after which our staff will no longer need to wander around to locate consumer addresses," explains Sanjeev Kumar Vaishya, Superintendent Engineer at PVVNL. "This initiative is a crucial step towards better maintenance and distribution of the power infrastructure through the power of technology."

Building a Smarter Future:

The adoption of GIS technology marks a significant advancement in Noida's smart meter implementation. By prioritizing data accuracy and service improvement, particularly in rural areas, the power department is paving the way for a more efficient and transparent electricity distribution system. This initiative holds the potential to set a benchmark for other regions, ultimately leading to a more reliable and responsive power grid for all.
