NTPC Operationalises 100 MW Solar PV Project at Ramagundam

NTPC has operationalised a 100 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) project at Ramagundam in Telangana, adding a significant renewable installation to its portfolio. The project connects to the regional grid and will supply clean electricity to local distribution networks. NTPC completed civil and electrical works and commissioned the arrays and inverters to commence commercial operations.

The plant strengthens the company's renewable capacity and supports Telangana's transition towards cleaner power sources. The facility will contribute to peak and daytime generation requirements and reduce reliance on fossil fuel based plants. Project execution followed standard engineering, procurement and construction practices and employed local contractors and skilled labour.

The installation uses photovoltaic modules and balance of system components designed for high availability and long-term performance. Operations will focus on optimising generation, maintenance scheduling and grid stability through established control systems. Ancillary benefits include reduced emissions intensity of the electricity supplied and modest savings in fuel consumption across the regional portfolio.

The Ramagundam project forms part of NTPC's broader renewable expansion strategy to diversify its generation mix and meet emerging policy commitments. The company expects the facility to support energy security and to enable further investments in solar and hybrid projects across its asset base. Continued commissioning of such capacities is intended to underpin India wide decarbonisation efforts and local economic activity.

Project operations include capacity building for local maintenance teams and transfer of operational knowhow to on site staff, supporting long term upkeep. Monitoring and performance analytics will be used to sustain generation output and to inform future optimisation. The installation is expected to contribute to lowering the carbon intensity of regional supply chains while supporting supply reliability during daylight hours. Stakeholder engagement during execution aimed to mitigate land use impacts and to maximise local employment benefits.

Pune Division to Remove All Diamond Crossings by Year-End

The Pune railway division has announced plans to remove all 16 diamond crossings by the end of 2026 as part of a major yard remodelling project following the derailment of a Vande Bharat Express at Pune Junction on April 27. Railway authorities said the replacements aim to improve safety and streamline train operations across the busy station. The decision followed a Central Railway finding that the accident involved a non-standard diamond crossing and highlighted the need for replacement. Regular maintenance of existing crossings will continue until the replacement work is completed. Official..

Goa Declares 80 Million Square Metres No Development Zone

The Goa state government has declared 80 million square metres (mn) of land a no development zone, designating the area as protected from new construction. The notification reclassifies tracts across the state under a no development category for planning and regulatory purposes. The declaration signals a formal halt to new building permits within the defined zone. Authorities indicated that maps will be issued to show broad boundaries while detailed surveys will refine precise limits. The move transfers responsibility for enforcement to local planning authorities and relevant departments, whic..
