Sangram Power Project to establish 1000 MW PSP in Odisha

Sangamam Power Project Company has developed a comprehensive project report for establishing a 1000 MW Pumped Storage Project (PSP) in Sunki, located in Odisha’s Koraput district. The project aims to enhance the region’s energy storage capabilities, contributing to Odisha’s renewable energy infrastructure.

As part of its expansion plans, the company formalized its commitment by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Odisha government during the Utkarsh Odisha Conclave. This agreement marks a significant step in advancing pumped storage technology within the state, ensuring reliable power supply and supporting grid stability.

The proposed PSP will leverage water reservoirs to store and generate electricity efficiently. During periods of low electricity demand, surplus power will be used to pump water from a lower reservoir to a higher one. When demand rises, the stored water will be released back to the lower reservoir, driving turbines to generate electricity. This process will help balance power fluctuations and integrate more renewable energy into the grid.

The Odisha government has been focusing on energy security and sustainability, making pumped storage projects an essential part of its long-term power strategy. By facilitating this large-scale investment, the state aims to strengthen its renewable energy portfolio and enhance overall power reliability.

With its expertise in developing energy infrastructure, Sangamam Power Project Company is expected to play a crucial role in executing this project. The collaboration between the government and private sector in this initiative underscores Odisha’s commitment to fostering clean energy solutions and advancing its position in India’s growing renewable energy sector.
