Jaipur to Begin Rs 2.73-Bn Elevated Road and Bridge Upgrade in January

Jaipur is preparing to roll out two major infrastructure works in the new year, with construction on the Sanganer elevated road and the widening of the OTS bridge scheduled to start in January. The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has already issued the work order for the OTS bridge upgrade, though the contractor is still finalising design details, pushing the on-ground start to next month.

The bridge expansion, pegged at Rs 320.91 million, was earlier marked for a December 9 commencement and is targeted for completion within a year. Meanwhile, tenders for the Sanganer elevated road—stretching from the flyover to the Chauradiya Petrol Pump—will be opened on December 11. Officials expect around 15 days for the work order process, after which the elevated road work will also begin in January. A previous tender was scrapped after bids came in 34 per cent above estimates. The upgraded project is now valued at around ₹240 crore.

The OTS bridge widening is expected to significantly ease congestion at one of Jaipur’s busiest intersections. Growing traffic from Himmatnagar ROB to JLN Marg has been funnelled through a narrow 50–52 ft stretch, causing regular peak-hour jams. Once widened to 110–115 ft, the bridge is expected to provide smoother movement for vehicles, including those heading straight towards Shiksha Sankul.

The Sanganer elevated road, announced in last year’s budget, has seen its cost rise from ₹170 crore to ₹240 crore due to an extension up to Malpura Gate. The four-lane structure—two lanes on each side—will connect the Sanganer flyover with Chauradiya Petrol Pump. The junction at the petrol pump will be split to provide access towards Malpura Gate and the New Sanganer Road railway overbridge, allowing users from the Gopalpura flyover to move in either direction. However, movement from Malpura Gate back towards the flyover will not be permitted under the current design.
