Sustainable Transit with Solar Power

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is transforming the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) with its ambitious solar initiatives. Currently generating 2.21 Megawatts peak (MWp) of solar power, NCRTC?s efforts are cutting over 2,300 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. Solar power plants installed at various stations, including Guldhar, Sahibabad, and Duhai Depot, significantly contribute to this green transition. With a target of 11 MW of solar capacity, the initiative is set to further reduce CO2 emissions by 11,500 tonnes annually. This aligns with the National Solar Mission's goals and enhances sustainability and operational efficiency across the network. Solar-equipped stations like Guldhar and Sahibabad are expected to generate substantial electricity annually, positioning them as ?Carbon Negative? due to their efficient energy use. NCRTC's commitment to sustainable transit not only promotes the use of public transport but also improves urban livability by reducing environmental impact. The ongoing construction and future expansions aim to complete by June 2025, ensuring a robust and eco-friendly transit solution for the region. Through these initiatives, NCRTC is setting a new standard for environmentally friendly public transportation, contributing significantly to sustainable urban development.
