TP Solar Produces 2.9 GW Modules, 2.8 GW Cells in 9M FY26

TP Solar (TP Solar), the solar manufacturing arm and wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL), has reported a strong manufacturing performance during the nine-month period from April to December 2025 (9M FY26). TPREL is a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company.

During the period under review, TP Solar manufactured 2.8 GW of domestically manufactured (DCR) solar cells and 2.9 GW of solar modules. Of the total module output, 2.4 GW comprised DCR modules, while the remaining 0.5 GW consisted of Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) compliant modules, underscoring the company’s growing contribution to India’s domestic solar supply chain.

In Q3 FY26 alone, TP Solar produced 940 MW of solar cells, a nearly five-fold increase compared to 196 MW in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Module production during the quarter stood at 990 MW, up from 927 MW in the year-ago period, reflecting a year-on-year growth of around 7 per cent. The performance highlights the company’s consistent capacity ramp-up and improving operational efficiency.

TP Solar operates one of India’s largest single-location, state-of-the-art solar cell and module manufacturing facilities with a capacity of 4.3 GW in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The facility is notable for its inclusive workforce, with nearly 80 per cent of employees being women.

Tata Power, through TPREL, has invested close to Rs 43 billion in setting up the Tirunelveli facility. The investment marks a significant step towards indigenisation of the solar value chain and reinforces Tata Power’s strategic focus on achieving self-reliance in solar cell and module manufacturing.

Equipped with advanced TOPCon and Mono PERC technologies, the plant manufactures ALMM-certified modules as well as DCR modules using domestically produced cells. The facility aligns with Tata Power’s broader commitment to supporting India’s net-zero carbon ambitions through robust local manufacturing capabilities.
