The Indian government has approved the construction of a strategic tunnel under the Brahmaputra River to facilitate the movement of troops to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. The tunnel aims to expedite the deployment of soldiers and ensure the rapid development of the region while minimizing environmental disruption. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, announced that the technical bids for the preparation of the detailed project report will be opened in July. The proposed corridor will stretch 35 km between Gohpur and Numaligarh. The estimated cost for constructing separate tunnels for road and train communication is Rs 60 billion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already given his approval for the project, and construction work is expected to commence during Sarma's tenure.
