Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor, Jammu and Kashmir, inaugurated an e-bus service in Srinagar and launched a fleet of 100 battery-operated vehicles under the Smart City initiative. These battery-operated environment-friendly e-buses will run on 15 designated routes.The move to introduce these buses in Jammu and Srinagar is aimed at reducing air and noise pollution and dependence on fossil fuels, as well as to provide better facilities to the people and to curb the unavailability of public transport service. There are two types of electric buses which include 75 nine-metre buses and 25 12-metre buses. The electric buses will also be equipped with facilities like real time passenger information system, panic button, location system, CCTV cameras, stop request system, online ticket booking, payments through QR code and several security related features.
