L Walter & Sons Excavating Boosts Quarry Efficiency with Liebherr R 992 Crawler Excavator

Ontario-based L Walter & Sons Excavating has strengthened its operations with the addition of the Liebherr R 992 crawler excavator, a powerhouse designed for the most demanding environments. The company, which operates a solid rock quarry in southern Canada, faces particularly tough conditions—extracting heavy materials with a density of 2.2 t/m³, large-size blocks, and abrasive rock. For such a setting, the R 992 proved to be the ideal strategic investment.

The R 992’s main role at the site is to load 40-tonne articulated dump trucks, achieving full loads in just three passes—a testament to its exceptional power and efficiency. Its class-leading breakout force and fast cycle times allow the company to streamline production flows, minimise truck waiting times, and lower operating costs.

“What won us over was the combination of power, speed, reliability, and production quality. The R 992 delivers on all counts — offering impressive strength, rapid cycles, and a perfectly finished design,”
— Matt Walter, Vice President, L. Walter & Sons Excavating

Founded in 1965, L. Walter & Sons Excavating celebrates 60 years in business this year, having already added 60 Liebherr machines to its fleet — marking another milestone in a longstanding partnership.
