Amitabh Bachchan sells Gulmohar Park family home for Rs 23 cr

Amitabh Bachchan, the Bollywood actor, has sold his Gulmohar Park home ‘ Sopaan’ in South Delhi for around Rs 23 crore, according to three people familiar with the transaction.

Teji Bachchan and Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan's parents, used to live in the bungalow.

Avni Bader, CEO of the Nezone group of companies, who lives nearby and has known the Bachchan family for over 35 years, has purchased the property.

The registry for the 418.05 sq m property was completed on December 7, according to data from Zapkey.

Bachchan has mentioned the family home, Sopaan, on his blog several times, and it was registered in his mother's name, Teji Bachchan.

While Amitabh Bachchan currently resides in Mumbai, where his home is a popular tourist attraction, he has remained attached to the double-storied home in Gulmohar Park, which is thought to be the Bachchan family's first home.

Locals informed that the family hosted poetry sessions until 1980 when Harivansh Rai lived in the bungalow.

Amitabh Bachchan recently paid Rs 31 crore for a duplex apartment in the Atlantis project in Mumbai's Andheri neighbourhood, which is still under construction.

High-value properties have always been in demand in South Delhi, but due to the large difference between the circle rate and the market rate, transactions have slowed in some areas.

Customers are focusing on wellness and convenience, according to developers, and there is a shift toward properties with large outdoor spaces that are ideally part of an integrated township.

At the same time, through a Covid-19-ravaged 2020–21, South Delhi and Lutyens' Bungalow Zone registered the highest number of property registrations in three years, with uber-rich investors buying assets in the area.
