Panchkula civic body to set up 24 sectors under land pooling schemes

For the first time, Panchkula Municipal Corporation plans to set up new 24 residential sectors in the district with land pooling schemes on the lines of Punjab and Gujarat.

Panchkula's mayor told the media that the agenda in this concern would be taken up in the forthcoming house meeting on March 7 and sent to the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) head office for clearance.

Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal told the media that till now, Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and Housing Board were setting up residential sectors.

The mayor said that under Section 42-A, clause 42 (1) of municipal corporation (MC) Act 1994, the development of urban areas comes under the MC. He added that the civic body would use the master plan of the Urban Complex planned in Kot and Billa villages in 2013 to set up 24 residential sectors.

The MC will utilise the land pooling scheme similar to Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) to form the sectors. Local villagers will be requested to pool land for the growth of new sectors, and an agreement will be signed with them for the growth of the area. The MC plans to hire consultants to guarantee the success of the plan.

The mayor said that many villagers are interested in expanding their area under the land pooling scheme, under which the landowner will be given one 1,000 to 1,200 square yard plot inside the sector, and the MC will not have to pay any amount to the landowner. There will be no enhancement like issues that will come in the future.

He further said that the proposal would be shared with councillors in the forthcoming house meeting. After talks and approval, the offer will be given to ULB for approval.
