Biophilia in action, Building a bond with natural elements

When a well-known German-headquartered engineering MNC wanted to set up its new office in Pune, an industrialised city in western India, they relied on Transitions Designs to deliver a workspace that matched their quest for perfection, while being true to the ethos of the city.

As is with Transitions Designs, each project is treated in its unique way.  For Kapil Sedani, the head of the design firm, the project was an opportunity to connect the design dots through Biophilia - the science of drawing nature’s elements into indoor spaces. The objective was to create a visually pleasant workspace that generates positive energy and enhances productivity.

The post-pandemic workplace

A sense of being one with nature is fundamental to well-being. For employees, one way of infusing this calmness is through the Biophilic approach. Transitions Designs recognises the fact that the post-pandemic workplace demands new ways to achieve the same level of social connectedness as before and reduce loneliness. Transitions’ Biophilic intervention is very systematic; not symbolic like placing attractive plants and shrubs. It truly is Biophilic in action and spirit.

Transitions Designs relied on the Material Matters collection from Shaw Contract. The pleasant grey colours and patterns of the collection have the immediate effect of calming the mind and reducing stress. The soft, yet tough tile material contributes to tactile underfoot comfort.

While functional beauty is one of the collection’s important aspects, the floor tiles amplify natural sunlight and bring a pleasant glow to the workspace, while ensuring a distinct character to each space in the vast office.

A window to nature and high productivity

The MNC’s new office in Pune is a worthy new addition to the company’s infrastructure breadth. While design perfection is indeed the hallmark, the new workspace has an earthy local touch, while enhancing concentration, attentiveness, and cognitive functions, all leading up to great productivity.

Transitions Designs believes in and delivers smart workspaces. We place trust and respect above everything else. We expect the same in our employees, partners, and customers, said Kapil Sedani, Director, Transitions Designs Pvt. Ltd.
