Mangalore Urban Development Authority cuts betterment fee by 80%

After the state government approved its request, the Mangalore Urban Development Authority (Muda) has cut the betterment charge for layout, change of the land, and single-site by five times.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Urban development department minister BA Basavaraja (Byarati) approved the updated fee.

Citing an example, Muda chairman Ravishankar Mijar told the media that if the betterment fee for five cents land costs Rs 6 lakh per cent is Rs 33,000, according to the revised order, it would be Rs 6,800.

He said that the residential layout developed by the Muda at Konaje would be complete soon, and by this, Muda is prepared to allot sites after 15 years.

Mijar also said that the Konaje layout, which is constructed on 13.2 acre for Rs 10.2 crore, is around 90% complete.

The layout will have 135 sites, and 94 would be available for allotting by the year-end. A lake is in the process of development near the layout, and Muda is also in process of getting the technical permission for the Chelyaru layout development.

The Muda Master plan-III is being developed under the AMRUT scheme, utilising GIS technology. The provision would be made for road widening, four truck bays, and a truck terminal to avoid traffic bottlenecks.

The development of lakes and restoration is being done under the Green Mangaluru initiative. Five lakes are prepared and are waiting for the opening declaration. The other ten lakes are under development.

The problems related to the Urwa Market, which is newly constructed, would also be sorted out soon, and to move the traders to the market, various steps would be taken.
