New houses in AP not to guzzle energy

In a significant development, the state of Andhra Pradesh has successfully initiated the construction of nearly 93% of the sanctioned 21.25 lakh housing units under the 'Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu' program. This ambitious housing project has received substantial financial backing from the state government, with an allocation of Rs 7,630 crore for the current fiscal year.

Notably, beneficiaries who opt for energy-efficient appliances will be entitled to a comprehensive package, including four LED bulbs, two LED tube lights, and two energy-efficient fans, all offered at prices below prevailing market rates.

To achieve this energy-efficient initiative, the Andhra Pradesh State Housing Company Limited has forged a memorandum of agreement with the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). The primary aim of this collaboration is to supply 6 lakh LED bulbs, 3 lakh LED tube lights, and 3 lakh BLDC ceiling fans in the initial phase to the beneficiaries residing in the Jagananna Colonies under the 'Navaratnalu-Pedalandariki Illu' scheme.

This strategic partnership is expected to yield substantial energy savings, estimated at 734 units per house annually. In total, it is projected to save an impressive 1145 million units of energy annually across 15.6 lakh houses encompassed in the first phase of the scheme. The transition to energy-efficient BLDC fans is predicted to reduce consumption by an impressive 50%, while LED tube lights and bulbs are set to slash energy usage by 60% and a remarkable 90%, respectively, in comparison to conventional appliances.

This commendable initiative not only addresses housing needs but also contributes significantly to sustainable energy practices, exemplifying the state's commitment to both housing development and environmental conservation.
