Odisha Launches PMAY-U 2.0 Drive for Urban Housing

To improve living standards for the urban populace, Odisha's Housing and Urban Development Department has directed urban local bodies (ULBs) statewide to initiate the application process under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0).

Gangadhar Nayak, Director of the Odisha Housing Urban Mission (OUHM), has urged ULB officials to create robust awareness campaigns to maximize participation. In a letter to municipal commissioners and executive officers, Nayak highlighted the use of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ Unified Web-portal Beneficiary Application Module, a user-friendly platform enabling direct applications for housing benefits.

Application Process and Awareness Drive Applicants can access the PMAY-U 2.0 forms via the portal, requiring essential documents such as Aadhaar cards, income certificates, and land ownership proof. To ensure a smooth application experience, ULBs have been instructed to establish desks and organize ward-level camps. Collaborations with Jan Seva Kendras will also ensure affordable services for applicants.

Awareness initiatives include banners, hoardings, and standees at application desks and camps. The OUHM will also circulate videos and audio messages to enhance outreach, with recorded announcements played through Swachh Sawari Vehicles in urban areas.

A Five-Year Plan for Urban Housing PMAY-U 2.0, launched on September 17, 2024, aims to provide affordable housing through four verticals over five years. In its first edition, Odisha completed significant housing projects under beneficiary-led construction and public-private partnership models. Bhubaneswar alone boasts four completed affordable housing projects.

This comprehensive push reflects Odisha’s commitment to urban housing, ensuring that quality living spaces are accessible to all.
