Sify Begins Rs 15 Billion AI Data Centre Project In Visakhapatnam

Sify Infinit Spaces, a subsidiary of Nasdaq-listed Sify Technologies, has commenced construction of its AI Edge Data Centre and Open Cable Landing (OCL) Station in Visakhapatnam, marking a major step in India’s digital infrastructure expansion.

At the ground-breaking ceremony, Nara Lokesh, Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for IT, Electronics and Communications, said Visakhapatnam is fast emerging as India’s global digital gateway on the eastern seaboard. He added that Sify’s advanced infrastructure will “strengthen our position on the global technology map and catalyse innovation, jobs, and investment,” noting that approvals for a mega data centre are already in place.

The upcoming facility will be Visakhapatnam’s first 50 MW AI-powered Edge Data Centre, while the OCL Station will establish the city as India’s next global digital gateway on the East Coast and a low-latency AI compute hub for the region.

Developed on a 3.6-acre site allocated by the state government, the project represents an investment of about Rs 15 billion, to be executed in two phases. It is expected to generate over 1,000 jobs across construction and operations, with a focus on locally trained technical talent.

The Open Cable Landing Station will anchor new submarine cable routes linking India with Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Australia, providing resilient, multi-path connectivity and bringing AI-grade, low-latency processing closer to enterprises across eastern and northeastern India.

The Edge Data Centre will be interconnected through an OPGW substation and supported by at least two diverse fibre networks, ensuring carrier-neutral redundancy and hyperscale-ready growth.

“This marks a defining moment in Andhra Pradesh’s digital journey and India’s path toward technological self-reliance,” said Raju Vegesna, Chairman of Sify Technologies. “We are proud to enable Visakhapatnam’s transformation into a key hub for global connectivity and digital infrastructure, and to advance AI-led innovation at scale,” he added.

Sify Infinit Spaces caters to colocation services for hyperscalers, enterprises, and neo-cloud players, operating 14 data centres across six cities as of June 2025, and serving over 500 clients. Its parent company, Sify Technologies, is among India’s leading digital ICT solutions providers with deep expertise in cloud-led business transformation.
