Long delayed Gurugram’s SPR finally moves towards a reality

Gurugram’s Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) comes at its final twitch with the removal of the last hurdle, Ambedkar Statue at Badshapur Chowk. The construction of SPR was almost completed in March, with only a small stretch left incomplete due to the delay in shifting the statue. Recently, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has removed the statue, which was hindering the completion of the road. The statue was planned to relegate to an adjacent place in April itself but due to some reasons it got delayed. HUDA administrator Yashpal Yadav reportedly says, “With the statue shifted, work on only a small stretch of the road remains. This important infrastructure project will now be completed in no time.” According to the authorities, the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is expected to inaugurate the road.

The road has been contemplated as the intra-city bypass which connects NH-8 with Gurgaon-Faridabad road near Ghata via Sohna-Gurgaon Road. The completion of the road will reconcile the huge traffic load on Iffco Chowk. SPR will improve the connectivity with other sectors, connecting sector 58-80 and Golf Course Road with NH-8. The completion of the road will be a great boon for the people of SPR and neighbouring areas and it will enhance the location as preferable for living.

The improved connectivity will be beneficial for the real estate developers as well. An estimate shows there are all together 50 new real estate projects and 20,000 under construction units being developed along SPR. The easier connectivity of Dwarka Expressway to Golf Course Extension Road also makes the location as a centre of beneficiation for the residents. Pankaj Bansal, Director, M3M Group, says, “The removal of this last hurdle will ensure the completion of Southern Peripheral Road is expedited. Realty in sectors 69-79 will get a huge boost as a result. SPR will connect these sectors  with Golf Course Road, Faridabad and South Delhi, reducing travel time for office-go-era as well. Residential and commercial projects along the SPR are now slated for an enhanced pace of development.”

Ravish Kapoor, Director, Elan Group, says that the opening of SPR will fill a crucial connectivity gap for the new sectors. “Commuters will get relief from traffic jams on Sohna road and MG Road as now they will be able to reach NH-8 directly from Faridabad and Golf Course Road.”

The SPR is expected to reduce traffic load and travel time. The Commuters from Faridabad and Golf Course Road will now be able to reach NH-8 near Kherki Daula, via bypassing the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and MG Road.Commuters from Sohna Road, Faridabad, Golf Course Road can directly reach Rewari and Manesar through SPR without moving on Gurgaon section of NH-8.
