Blue Energy Motors Raises $30M to Boost Truck Production

Blue Energy Motors (BEM), a manufacturer of LNG and electric heavy-duty trucks, has raised $30 million in a fresh funding round from Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath and Omnitex Industries to expand manufacturing capacity and scale operations.
The company has raised a total of $50 million to date and is backed by Essar and FPT (Iveco Group). Currently, BEM has an annual manufacturing capacity of 10,000 trucks. The new funding will enable full utilisation of this capacity, accelerate production, and support the development of LNG and electric vehicle (EV) heavy-duty trucks, strengthening the company’s green mobility footprint across India.
As the country’s largest maker of LNG trucks, BEM has sold around 1,000 vehicles, which have collectively travelled over 60 million kilometres and reduced carbon emissions by more than 15,000 tonnes of CO2.
Anirudh Bhuwalka, Founder and Managing Director of BEM, said there are roughly 2–2.5 million heavy-duty trucks on long-haul routes and 1–1.5 million on short-haul routes. “Short-haul corridors are ideal for electric adoption because they are fixed route,” he added, noting that the company plans to launch its EV truck soon.
“In any new technology, there is early adoption, maturity, and growth. We introduced LNG three years ago and now plan to bring in electric,” Bhuwalka explained.
Investor Nikhil Kamath said, “The future of logistics in India will be built on clean, scalable technology. Blue Energy has delivered disruption efficiently and at scale.”
Anshuman Ruia, Director at Essar, added: “Our continued investment demonstrates confidence in Blue Energy Motors and its innovative approach to decarbonising heavy-duty transportation, aligning with Essar’s vision of promoting sustainable business solutions.”
