DDA Seeks Stakeholder Input to Ease Delhi Traffic Congestion

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has held a consultation with government agencies and other stakeholders on measures to ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity and promote sustainable urban mobility in the national capital. The meeting, held on Friday, formed part of a three-month outreach programme to gather feedback on the implementation of the Master Plan for Delhi-2047.

Representatives were briefed on proposals to improve access to newly urbanised areas, make better use of existing transport infrastructure and integrate land-use decisions with transport planning. The consultation also examined plans to expand the Delhi Metro network from 416 km to 695 km and the Namo Bharat network from 82 km to 383 km.

The meeting discussed the proposed Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority, which would coordinate transport planning and implementation across agencies. The plan also envisages stronger multimodal integration through transit hubs at Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar and Kashmere Gate, with the aim of improving links between transport systems and strengthening last-mile access.

Parking management was another focus of the consultation. The plan proposes rationalised parking norms, comprehensive area-based parking plans and the identification of parking management areas in localities facing heavy traffic and congestion. A Unified Parking Planning Framework is also proposed to coordinate parking planning, regulation and management.

To address traffic bottlenecks, the DDA plan includes new road networks, underpasses, elevated corridors and cross-corridors, along with measures to bridge missing links and improve road junctions. It also proposes clean fuels, technologically advanced transit systems and artificial intelligence for traffic and parking management. Officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Public Works Department, Delhi Traffic Police, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, New Delhi Municipal Council, National Highways Authority of India and National High Speed Rail Corporation attended the consultation, among other agencies.
