Delhi Activates GRAP-3 Measures

The Delhi government has escalated its anti-pollution measures to GRAP-3 (Graded Response Action Plan, Stage 3) starting tomorrow to combat worsening air quality. Triggered by the city's deteriorating Air Quality Index (AQI), the plan imposes stringent restrictions, including a ban on non-essential construction and demolition activities. This action aligns with efforts to minimize airborne particulate matter and mitigate the health risks posed by winter smog.

Authorities are intensifying measures to address major pollution sources, such as vehicular emissions, industrial activities, and waste burning. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee and related bodies will closely monitor compliance, focusing on hotspots to ensure strict implementation. Measures include restrictions on diesel generator usage and efforts to promote public transportation.

Delhi’s air quality often worsens during winter due to stubble burning in neighboring states and stagnant atmospheric conditions. GRAP-3 underscores the urgency to protect public health by reducing exposure to toxic air pollutants. Residents are encouraged to limit outdoor activities and adopt eco-friendly practices to support collective mitigation efforts.
