Delhi Government Launches Rs. 2.14 bn Projects in Unauthorised Colonies

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta laid the foundation stones for 53 development projects worth Rs. 2.14 bn in unauthorised colonies across the Kirari, Bawana, Mundka, Narela and Nangloi Jat Assembly constituencies on Sunday. The projects are intended to strengthen essential civic amenities and infrastructure and are expected to benefit around 175,000 people.

The works will cover 1,062 roads and lanes in 27 unauthorised colonies. They include the development of 89.82 km of roads and 147.69 km of drainage networks, with the infrastructure expected to improve local connectivity, strengthen stormwater management and reduce waterlogging.

Kirari will receive the largest share of the programme, with 27 works planned across 14 unauthorised colonies at a cost of Rs. 1.06 bn. These works will cover 640 roads and lanes, 50.71 km of roads and 101.42 km of drainage networks. The stormwater systems are intended to improve drainage capacity in areas vulnerable to water accumulation.

Bawana will receive nine works worth Rs. 388.3 mn, while five works worth Rs. 220.5 mn will be undertaken in Mundka. Narela will receive four works costing Rs. 144.8 mn and Nangloi Jat will have eight works worth Rs. 332.5 mn. Across the areas, paved roads and lanes are also expected to improve neighbourhood access and reduce dust from unpaved or damaged surfaces.

The projects were attended by North West Delhi MP Yogendra Chandolia, Cabinet Ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood and Ravindra Indraj Singh, and MLAs Raj Karan, Manoj Shokeen and Gajendra Daral, among other public representatives. Gupta said the Delhi Government was focusing on implementing schemes on the ground in a time-bound manner and addressing long-pending local infrastructure requirements through lasting solutions.

Reddy made the remarks on Monday on the sidelines of the Assocham-organised Angul Aluminium Roadshow in Kolkata. His comments came amid reports of alleged supply constraints at some power plants, although he said the temporary interruptions should not be interpreted as a broader shortage. ..
