The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) is integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into public health systems to enhance efficiency, diagnosis, and disease prevention. Key initiatives include:

Centres of Excellence for AI in Healthcare AIIMS Delhi, PGIMER Chandigarh, and AIIMS Rishikesh designated as AI hubs to drive innovation and AI-based medical solutions.

AI-Powered Disease Surveillance & Diagnostics Media Disease Surveillance (MDS) – AI-driven infectious disease tracking with 4,500+ event alerts since 2022, enabling early outbreak detection and mitigation. Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) – Integrated into eSanjeevani telemedicine, benefiting 196 million consultations with AI-powered differential diagnosis. ‘Cough against TB’ AI tool – Identifies 12-16% more TB cases, ensuring better detection in communities. AI prediction model for TB outcomes – Led to a 27% decline in adverse TB cases, improving patient management.

By embracing AI, India’s healthcare sector is advancing towards greater accessibility, efficiency, and proactive disease control—paving the way for a healthier future.
