A High-Powered Purchase Committee meeting chaired by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini approved the purchase of 26,161 distribution transformers for the state power corporations to strengthen the electricity network. The approval covers transformers for Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, hereafter referred to as DHBVN and UHBVN respectively. Ministers Mahipal Dhanda, Vipul Goel and Shyam Singh Rana and senior officials attended the session. The committee also sanctioned procurement of between 5,000 and 7,500 tools and plant kits for the safety of linemen and assistant linemen. The special T&P kits will comprise 14 items designed to enhance on-site safety and operational readiness. The kits and transformers were prioritised to ensure maintenance crews have adequate equipment for emergency restoration work. The chief minister said the government is giving special attention to ensuring uninterrupted power supply and is working to bolster system resilience. Officials noted that an adequate number of transformers will help maintain sufficient backup across the distribution network and reduce response times during outages. The purchase forms part of a broader plan to modernise infrastructure and support reliable service delivery. Safety of employees was described as a priority and the meeting directed the power corporations to expedite deployment of safety kits alongside transformer roll-out. The procurement approval is expected to be followed by tendering and phased installation, with logistics coordinated by the state energy department and the two distribution companies. The state government indicated that these measures aim to improve reliability and protect frontline staff. Officials said the state will prioritise sites with high load demand and ageing equipment and will maintain inventories to address contingencies rapidly. Implementation will include testing and certification of new transformers and training for linemen in the use of the T&P kits to promote safe and effective maintenance practices.
