Himadri Starts Commercial Operations of 70,000 MTPA Line

Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd (HSCL) has commenced commercial operations of the 70,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) speciality carbon black line at its Mahistikry manufacturing facility in Hooghly, West Bengal. The brownfield expansion brings the site's total carbon black manufacturing capacity to 250,000 MTPA, including a speciality carbon black capacity of 130,000 MTPA, making Mahistikry the world’s largest single-location speciality carbon black facility. The company said the commissioning marked a significant step in its strategic growth programme and reinforced its leadership in the global speciality carbon black market.

The expansion strengthens the company’s speciality portfolio and its capacity to serve high-value application segments such as plastics, inks, paints and coatings. The project incorporates advanced process technologies, state-of-the-art quality control systems, energy-efficient operations and scalable infrastructure to ensure consistent production of premium grades for global customers. Himadri indicated that the enhanced scale will support faster market responsiveness and improved product innovation for niche industrial applications.

The newly commissioned capacity is expected to contribute meaningfully to revenue growth and to strengthen the company’s margin profile over the medium term. As global demand shifts toward high-performance, customised carbon solutions, HSCL anticipates competitive advantages through operational efficiencies, supply reliability and improved cost structures.
