Jharkhand Begins Geo-Tagging of Road Construction Projects

Jharkhand’s Road Construction Department has begun preparing a comprehensive, updated database of its projects and made geo-tagging mandatory, following a directive from Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The move is intended to support more effective monitoring of road, flyover and bridge works across the state.

The database will document each project’s cost, progress, timelines and current status. Geo-tagging will add location-based information, including latitude, longitude, altitude and place names, to project-related digital records such as photographs and videos.

Soren directed officials to use the system to improve transparency, supervision and accountability. He also asked them to identify problems promptly and ensure the swift resolution of public complaints. The directions followed reports in social and traditional media about damaged roads, potholes, waterlogging and irregularities in construction work.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to give special attention to road repairs, drainage and maintenance during the monsoon to reduce the risk of accidents. He also called for the widening and strengthening of narrow roads to improve traffic safety, while directing authorities to address weak bridge approaches and improve drainage systems.

Soren expressed concern over road, flyover and bridge projects that have remained incomplete for years and caused inconvenience to residents. He directed officials to accelerate ongoing works, particularly major projects in Ranchi and other parts of Jharkhand, and complete priority projects within two months. Officials and executing agencies failing to meet the deadline would face strict action, according to the directive.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the Solar Cycle Track and other infrastructure initiatives. He instructed officials to ensure durability, construction quality, timely execution and compliance with prescribed engineering standards across all projects.

Reddy made the remarks on Monday on the sidelines of the Assocham-organised Angul Aluminium Roadshow in Kolkata. His comments came amid reports of alleged supply constraints at some power plants, although he said the temporary interruptions should not be interpreted as a broader shortage. ..
