KD Group Advances Capacity Expansion And Merger

KD Iron & Steel Pvt Ltd, the flagship of KD Group, is a leading manufacturer of branded steel products in the North-East of India under the XTECH brand. The company and affiliate KD Green Industries Limited are pursuing a consolidation that the group says will create a diversified sustainable manufacturing platform. Management presented capacity figures, technology investments and a growth roadmap focused on green steel and value added products.

Current furnace capacity stands at 90,000 tonne (t) annually and is planned to rise to 180,000 t after expansion, representing a 2.67× increase. Rolling capacity is scheduled to increase from 99,000 t to 200,000 t annually. The total project outlay is Rs 3.25 billion (bn), which includes a captive 25 megawatt (MW) solar power plant to lower energy costs and carbon intensity.

The company emphasised technology leadership with German computerized rolling mills, Thermex quenching and seismic Zone-V certified TMT bars produced using twin ribbed structure technology. Production relies heavily on recycled metal scrap melted in electric induction furnaces with ladle refining to reduce emissions per tonne. The solar installation and other efficiencies are intended to enhance operating leverage and support a green manufacturing hub including AAC blocks and steel fabrication.

The group has received government approval for incentives totalling Rs 6 billion (bn) over 15 years to support long term expansion and cash flow strengthening. The proposed merger of KD Green Industries and KD Iron & Steel is presented as a step to consolidate group businesses, improve operating efficiencies and unlock shareholder value through scale. Brand strengthening measures include appointment of national and regional ambassadors to boost customer engagement and dealer confidence across the North-East. Further synergies are anticipated.
