Kerala invites EoI for consultant to construct an earthen dam in Wayanad

Kerala Government has invited an expression of interest (EoI) in a bid to select a consultant to prepare the DPR in order to construct an earthen dam under Kadamanthodu project in Wayanad.

This move is a result of the government’s efforts to tap the share of water allocated to it in the Kabini basin as per the Cauvery verdict.

Kicking off the bidding process is a big first step in ensuring that the project which has been dormant for the last decade can now begin.

As reported, the job of the consultant will entail surveys, conducting ground-level investigation, preparing structural designs and will also include mapping out detailed cost estimates for the DPR for the construction of a multipurpose composite dam across the Kadamanthodu river in the Kabini basin in Wayanad.

Once completed, the project is likely to reduce draught at Pulpally, Mullankolly and Poothadi panchayats of Wayanad. Additionally, it will also aid in restoring groundwater levels in the following areas.

Presently, Kerala has undertaken two projects, the Banasura Sagar dam and the Karappuzha irrigation project. Both these together utilise around 3.64 TMC of water in the Kabini basin.
