L&T receives Dubai’s Taqdeer Award for best labour environment

Mumbai-based construction engineering company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) was bestowed a three-star grading at the fourth edition of Dubai’s Taqdeer Awards for providing the best working conditions for labourers at their various project sites across the UAE.

L&T also had their labourers appreciated for their work at a convention held at the Sheikh Rashid Hall of the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The Taqdeer trophy was handed over by Chairman of Taqdeer Awards and Deputy Director-General of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), Major-General Obaid Muhair bin Suroor to the Vice President and Head of Middle East–Power Transmission and Distribution business head, T A Rao.

As many as 77 labourers and companies were recognised in five categories during awards.

Taqdeer Awards, a Government of Dubai initiative, commenced in 2016 and aims to encourage the efforts of labourers and protect their labour rights to boost up productivity and performance across various sectors.

Maj-Gen stated that evaluation of the companies was done by more than 105 qualified assessors based on vital fundamentals–labour policies, occupational health, work environment factors like communication, creativity and innovation, rules and regulations–in addition to results based on labour perceptions and performance indicators.

As an encouragement to the companies that earned high Taqdeer Award ratings, the Dubai government has declared presenting excellence cards to motivate them to continue their path of excellence.

Government department heads, senior officials, representatives of regional and international organisations, professionals from both public and private sectors, members of the diplomatic corps and the media were guests at the Taqdeer Awards.
