The Madurai Municipal Corporation has suspended five bill collectors after uncovering their involvement in a major property tax fraud. The suspension follows an internal investigation that revealed the collectors manipulated tax records, leading to significant financial losses for the civic body.

The fraud was detected during a routine audit, which exposed discrepancies in the property tax collections. Legal action is being considered against the suspended collectors, and strict measures are being implemented to ensure that property tax collection processes are more secure and transparent.
