MSME Ministry, MoSPI Sign MoU to Strengthen Business Register

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME Ministry) and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the Statistical Business Register (SBR), the MSME Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

The agreement establishes a framework for sharing unit-level data from the Udyam Registration ecosystem with MoSPI through Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). A two-way API mechanism will support the exchange of relevant information for preparing and strengthening the National Statistical Business Register (NSBR).

The structured data-sharing arrangement is intended to improve the coverage, consistency and reliability of business information used for statistical purposes. The ministries said the framework would institutionalise the exchange of relevant data and support the development of a more comprehensive register of economic units.

The SBR is a centralised and regularly updated database of registered businesses, enterprises, establishments and other economic units operating within a defined geographical area. It records key characteristics of these units and the relationships between them, creating a common framework for compiling business-related information.

The register forms an important part of the economic statistics system. It can help identify target populations and select samples for economic surveys, support the compilation of business demography statistics and improve the integration of information from different sources.

The MoU was signed by Rajneesh, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner in the MSME Ministry, and Dalip Singh, Additional Director General at MoSPI. The ministries expect the arrangement to provide a more systematic basis for maintaining and using business data for official statistical work.

Meanwhile, disruption costs the global economy an estimated $184 billion a year.Enterprises already own excellent systems of record. What they lack is a system of action. Copilots don't fix that, they just give faster answers about a broken pro..
