PM Modi to launch 2,000 railway projects valued at Rs 410 billion

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for approximately 2,000 railway infrastructure projects valued at over Rs 410 billion. This event took place through video conferencing on February 26.

Emphasising the government's commitment to modernising the railway sector, these projects cover a broad spectrum of infrastructure upgrades with the aim of improving passenger experience and connectivity throughout the country.

As a part of this initiative, it was revealed that the prime minister would also initiate the redevelopment of 553 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme across 27 states and union territories. The estimated cost of this endeavour is over Rs 190 billion. The plan is to transform these stations into 'City Centres' that offer contemporary amenities such as roof plazas, landscaping, food courts, and play areas. The design is focused on being eco-friendly and accessible to everyone.

Moreover, the inauguration of the Gomti Nagar station in Uttar Pradesh, redeveloped with an investment of approximately Rs 3.85 billion, will serve as a showcase for the government's vision for futuristic railway stations equipped with modern facilities, including air-conditioned concourses and ample parking space.

The prime minister's agenda also encompasses the foundation laying, inauguration, and dedication of 1,500 road overbridges and underpasses across 24 states and union territories. The total investment in this significant move amounts to Rs 215.20 billion. The primary objective is to reduce congestion, enhance safety, and improve the efficiency of rail travel.
