Raipur Municipal Corporation Approves Green Bond for City Development

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) approved a green bond worth Rs 2 billion. The bond is aimed at generating funds during the financial year 2023-24 to support the implementation of several development projects in the city.

Mayor Aijaz Dhebar chaired a meeting in the presence of Commissioner Mayank Chaturvedi, which focused on allocating the raised funds to various significant projects. These projects include the construction of a sports complex at Eidgah Bhata Hind Sporting Ground, with an estimated cost of Rs 250 million. Additionally, a commercial complex at the old RMC office at Jaistambh Chowk will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 600 million. The city will also establish a TTP in Nimora and Kara STP, involving an expenditure of Rs 400 million. Moreover, a state-of-the-art e-Bus project, valued at Rs 800 million, is planned for Raipur, along with another commercial complex at Bhaisthan, budgeted at Rs 550 million.

The Mayor stated that issuing municipal bonds and funding various projects will pave the way for creating a more vibrant and sustainable city for the future.

Additionally, Rs 200 million has been allocated to purchase 10 electric buses. This move is intended to promote sustainable transportation and reduce the city's carbon footprint. The tendering process for procuring these electric buses will commence soon, as decided in the meeting. The gathering addressed a total of 27 proposals.

The meeting also finalized the naming of roads after two freedom fighters. One road will be named from Chandni Chowk to Bhatagaon Bus Stand in memory of Late Jhumuk Lal Mahobia, while another road from Phool Chowk to Nayapara and Saraswati Kanya Shala will be named after Late Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari.

These measures are part of Raipur's ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and promote environmental sustainability, the commissioner said.
