Supplementary budget worth Rs 50.13 Bn tabled in assembly

The Uttarakhand government presented a supplementary budget of Rs 50.13 billion in the state assembly on Thursday. This followed the introduction of key bills, including the Uttarakhand Prisons and Correctional Services Bill, 2024, and an amendment to the Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act, 1950.

The main budget for the year was Rs 892.30 billion, with the supplementary budget covering Rs 37.56 billion in revenue expenses and Rs 12.56 billion in capital expenses.

The supplementary budget allocated Rs 15.32 billion for centrally funded schemes and Rs 2.73 billion for externally aided schemes. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the government is committed to public welfare, and the budget includes significant provisions for such schemes. Disaster management was highlighted as a major focus.

A total provision of Rs 7.49 billion has been made for major construction works in the Himalayan state, including Rs 500 million for the development of Tehri Lake, Rs 320 million for the construction of Gau Sadans, Rs 250 million for nursing colleges, and Rs 140 million for degree college construction.

The Uttarakhand Prisons and Correctional Services Bill, 2024, is intended to modernise the state?s prison laws following the repeal of several older acts by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The bill addresses the management of prisons and the rehabilitation of prisoners.

Furthermore, the Uttarakhand government has proposed amendments to the Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act to resolve issues arising from the expansion of municipal areas and related land disputes.
