UP tourism to spend Rs 30 mn for Buddhist site in Sankisa

Uttar Pradesh plans to allocate approximately Rs 300 million for enhancing infrastructure at Sankisa, a Buddhist site in Farrukhabad. Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh announced that the investment will focus on developing tourist facilities at Buddh Vihar, costing around Rs 200 million. This initiative includes the construction of a boundary wall, water facilities, passenger sheds, lighting, toilets, restrooms, and a passenger hall. In addition, a Buddhist museum will be built across 2.25 acres, with an allocated budget of Rs 100 million.

Sankisa holds significant religious importance as it is believed to be the place where Lord Buddha descended after preaching to his mother in Devlok. It is a prominent pilgrimage site within Uttar Pradesh's Buddhist circuit, which includes other major sites like Kapilvastu, Kaushambi, Kushinagar, Shravasti, and Sarnath. (Source: TOI)
