Virtusa Foundation Powers Green Education Drive in Bengaluru

The Virtusa Foundation, CSR arm of digital engineering and technology leader Virtusa Corporation, has announced key infrastructure and mobility initiatives at the Ramakrishna Mission, Shivanahalli, Bengaluru. The launch marks the inauguration of a 16-room residential facility for lady teachers and the deployment of two solar-powered electric buses, underscoring Virtusa’s commitment to its core pillars of Education, Environment and Empowerment (3Es). 

 Located on the forest fringe near Bannerghatta National Park, the initiative supports tribal and underserved communities, complementing over four decades of educational work by the Ramakrishna Mission in the region. 

 The new 7,000 sq ft teacher accommodation includes a multipurpose hall, four pantry areas, and a common washroom, offering residence for up to 34 educators. Designed to address teacher attrition in remote areas, the facility provides improved living conditions to encourage longer tenure, resulting in greater continuity in learning, stronger student-teacher relationships, and enhanced academic outcomes. 

 To further expand student access, Virtusa Foundation also flagged off two Tata Ultra 9m electric buses, which will provide safe, reliable daily transport for 120 students from surrounding villages. These buses are charged entirely by solar energy generated on-site, reducing operational costs and advancing climate resilience. Each vehicle is equipped with fast-charging capabilities and a suite of safety features, including electronic braking, stability control, lap belts, fire detection systems, fire-retardant seats, and soft grab handles. 

 The buses also support the weekend ‘MaaDoo’ STEM initiative, transporting students from 10 government schools to Ramakrishna Mission’s campus for hands-on science learning. In doing so, the Mission becomes the first school in India to operate solar-charged Tata electric buses, highlighting a pioneering model of green transport in education. 

 The initiatives were formally inaugurated by Amit Bajoria, Chief Financial Officer, Virtusa Corporation, alongside Shri Srimat Swami Atmavidanandaji Maharaj, Senior Monk of Ramakrishna Math and Mission. The event was also attended by Shri Srimat Swami Muktidanandaji, Trustee of Ramakrishna Math and Adhyaksha of the Ramakrishna Ashrama, Mysuru. Senior Virtusa leaders including Shirsendu Deb, Chandan Govindarajulu, and Roch Ferreira were also present, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to social impact and sustainability.
