Virtusa Foundation Powers Green Education Drive in Bengaluru

The Virtusa Foundation, CSR arm of digital engineering and technology leader Virtusa Corporation, has announced key infrastructure and mobility initiatives at the Ramakrishna Mission, Shivanahalli, Bengaluru. The launch marks the inauguration of a 16-room residential facility for lady teachers and the deployment of two solar-powered electric buses, underscoring Virtusa’s commitment to its core pillars of Education, Environment and Empowerment (3Es).

Located on the forest fringe near Bannerghatta National Park, the initiative supports tribal and underserved communities, complementing over four decades of educational work by the Ramakrishna Mission in the region.

The new 7,000 sq ft teacher accommodation includes a multipurpose hall, four pantry areas, and a common washroom, offering residence for up to 34 educators. Designed to address teacher attrition in remote areas, the facility provides improved living conditions to encourage longer tenure, resulting in greater continuity in learning, stronger student-teacher relationships, and enhanced academic outcomes.

To further expand student access, Virtusa Foundation also flagged off two Tata Ultra 9m electric buses, which will provide safe, reliable daily transport for 120 students from surrounding villages. These buses are charged entirely by solar energy generated on-site, reducing operational costs and advancing climate resilience. Each vehicle is equipped with fast-charging capabilities and a suite of safety features, including electronic braking, stability control, lap belts, fire detection systems, fire-retardant seats, and soft grab handles.

The buses also support the weekend ‘MaaDoo’ STEM initiative, transporting students from 10 government schools to Ramakrishna Mission’s campus for hands-on science learning. In doing so, the Mission becomes the first school in India to operate solar-charged Tata electric buses, highlighting a pioneering model of green transport in education.

The initiatives were formally inaugurated by Amit Bajoria, Chief Financial Officer, Virtusa Corporation, alongside Shri Srimat Swami Atmavidanandaji Maharaj, Senior Monk of Ramakrishna Math and Mission. The event was also attended by Shri Srimat Swami Muktidanandaji, Trustee of Ramakrishna Math and Adhyaksha of the Ramakrishna Ashrama, Mysuru. Senior Virtusa leaders including Shirsendu Deb, Chandan Govindarajulu, and Roch Ferreira were also present, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to social impact and sustainability.

Amit Bajoria, CFO, Virtusa Corporation, said:

“At Virtusa, we believe true progress is built on the foundation of education, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment — the three pillars that guide every initiative we undertake. By providing safe, supportive housing for teachers and clean, reliable transportation for students, we are investing not just in infrastructure, but in human potential and a sustainable future. These initiatives exemplify our commitment to fostering inclusive growth that uplifts communities and addresses the urgent challenges of climate change. Through the Virtusa Foundation, we remain dedicated to engineering solutions that create meaningful, long-term impact where it matters most.”

Shri Srimat Swami Atmavidanandaji Maharaj added:

“Our collaboration with Virtusa Foundation embodies the spirit of service and commitment to uplifting rural education and sustainable living. The new teachers’ quarters and electric buses will significantly enhance the well-being of teaching staff and students, enabling a nurturing environment for learning and growth. We are grateful for this partnership that brings hope and progress to our community.”

These efforts reflect a growing alliance between Virtusa Foundation and Ramakrishna Mission, with a shared vision of transforming rural education and promoting green mobility solutions. The initiative not only supports Virtusa’s net-zero targets for 2040 and 100 per cent renewable energy use by 2030, but also sets a benchmark for integrated, community-led sustainability in education.
