AM/NS India To Start Andhra Steel Plant Work Next Week

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) will commence work next week on a proposed integrated steel plant in Andhra Pradesh, marking the launch of what the company has described as India's largest greenfield steel project. The development will be located near Visakhapatnam and is being advanced under a phased plan. The move follows facilitation of approvals and provision of infrastructure support by the Andhra Pradesh government. The company framed the project as a strategic investment in domestic capacity.

AM/NS India will invest about Rs 700 bn in the first phase to build eight point two mn t per annum capacity near the port city. The figure converts the originally stated amount in crores to billions for clarity. The company expects the phased approach to allow for staged commissioning and capacity scaling. Financial structuring for subsequent phases will follow initial construction milestones.

The state government has allotted around 2,200 acres for the project and has been credited with expediting clearances to accelerate construction. Officials have also been involved in planning site logistics and access to utilities to support the plant's operations. The site proximity to port infrastructure is expected to aid raw material and product movement. Authorities have outlined plans to integrate project logistics with regional transport corridors.
