Jindal Steel Commissions 12.5 MTPA Cargo Terminal at Paradip Port

Jindal Steel has commenced commercial operations at a 12.5 MTPA cargo terminal at Paradip Port in Odisha through its subsidiary, Jindal Paradip Port. The facility began operations on 15 October, one day ahead of schedule, after receiving its Phase I completion certificate on 12 October, four days before the contractual deadline.

The terminal is being developed at the Western Dock of Paradip Port under a build-operate-transfer arrangement with the Paradip Port Authority. The agreement provides Jindal Steel with dedicated, long-term port access to support its expanding steelmaking operations and improve the movement of raw materials and finished products.

The project is being developed in two phases, each with a capacity of 12.5 MTPA. The total cost of both phases is estimated at Rs. 33.93 bn, with Jindal Steel contributing Rs. 2.58 bn in equity and financing the balance through debt.

The facility is designed to handle dry-bulk and break-bulk cargo, including coal, limestone and steel-related materials. Both phases are progressing simultaneously, although the company has not announced a separate commercial operations date for the remaining 12.5 MTPA capacity.

Once complete, the terminal will have a planned total capacity of 25 MTPA. Associated developments include a dedicated port at Paradip, a slurry pipeline, a coal pipe conveyor, the Shreebhoomi Power Plant and new coke oven facilities. These projects are intended to strengthen supply-chain efficiency and provide additional logistical support for Jindal Steel’s operations in the region.
